When Dr. Massaro or Dr. McEneaney need to evaluate the soft tissues in your feet or ankles (including tendons, ligaments, muscles and nerves), they peform a diagnostic ultrasound. An ultrasound can help diagnose soft tissue problems, such as sprains, neuromas, tendonitis, tarsal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis and foreign bodies.
Like an X-ray, an ultrasound is quick and painless. Using sound waves, it snaps real-time images of bone structures and soft tissues and displays them on a video screen. (It’s the same technology used by Ob-Gyn doctors to see and evaluate a developing baby.)
Whenever possible, our doctors will use an ultrasound instead of an MRI, as this test is much less expensive for our patients. It’s much faster, as well.
